What this is
Supporters, usually former students, pick the teachers who made a difference and give a percentage or a flat amount of each paycheck. We collect it on their payday and send your share to your own bank account. Gifts are personal gifts to you, not donations to a school.

What a sceptical teacher should know
Four things people ask before they will believe any of this, answered plainly.
Nobody is paid in your name until we have confirmed it is you
A profile can be created by a former student, but it cannot receive a payout, and no money is ever collected for it. A gift to a teacher who has not joined is a promise: nobody is charged until you are verified and able to be paid. You confirm a school email address, upload a document, or verify with ID.me; a person on our side reviews anything that does not line up. That is what stops somebody impersonating you, and it means there is never a pot of your money sitting with us.
No fee is taken from your share
The supporter's gift already accounts for the flat 1% PayMyTeacher fee and for Stripe's processing charge, and most supporters choose to cover processing themselves so the whole gift arrives. Nothing further is deducted on the way to you.
There is no listing fee, no subscription and no charge for being paid out.
The money lands in your own bank account
Payouts run through Stripe Express, an account that belongs to you. You enter your bank details on Stripe's pages; we never see or store them. Stripe collects the identity and tax information the law requires, and gives you your own dashboard showing every payout. Gifts are paid out weekly.
You read the notes
Every gift can carry a message from the person who sent it, and those notes appear on your teacher dashboard alongside the gift. Some supporters give anonymously; you still get the note, just not the name. For many teachers this is the part that matters.
Free for teachers
There is no fee to receive gifts. A supporter's gift already accounts for the flat 1% PayMyTeacher fee and for payment processing, and they can cover processing themselves so the full gift arrives. Nothing further is deducted from your share when it is paid out.
Verification protects you
Only verified teachers receive gifts. That means nobody can collect money in your name, and supporters know the person on the profile is really you. Your bank details stay with Stripe; we never see or store them.
Retired teachers welcome
Many of the people being thanked here taught decades ago. If you have retired, verify with a document instead of a school email, and mark your profile as retired so former students can find you.

Supporters can add a teacher without an email address. Search the directory for your name, open your profile and click This is me to start the claim from there.
What if a profile with my name is wrong or is not me?
Claim it anyway and correct the details, or write to hello@paymyteacher.com and we will sort it out. If someone is impersonating you, tell us and we will remove the profile.
Do I have to do anything to keep receiving gifts?
No. Once you are verified and your bank account is connected, payouts run on their own. Log in whenever you want to read notes or update your profile.
